• 2012 Saab 9-5 SportCombi pre-launch brochure with specifications for the USA

The new pre-launch brochure for the new Saab 9-5 SportCombi is available. It is very interesting to see there is not going to be an Aero version with the 2.8T V6 engine. The 2.0L 220hp engine with automatic transmission is the only available engine/transmission combination. The 2010 9-5 sedan was introduced as an Aero version only and it is nice to see they will offer the less expensive model for 2012.

Saab's Cross Wheel Drive system is also going to be standard equipment, according to the brochure. With other optional equipment like Navigation and Panoramic Moonroof being standard on the SportCombi, pricing must be close to US$ 50,000. Unless the brochure is not accurate and some of this equipment is going to be optional or part of a package in the future.

Availability still shows as being Winter 2011 so it will be a short 2012 model year for the SportCombi. Perhaps 2013 will bring the Aero model together with a manual transmission choice on both models.

YES YES YES!! SAAB is getting it finally! My biggest complaint with options was the fact that even with an Aero trim Navigation still wasn't standard. That is simply inexcusable in the luxury market. For fun I build an Aero 9-3 Cabrio, came out to $48G's BEFORE Navigation was included. It might be on the higher side but hey that means larger profits and greater margins and with all these options it puts them right next to the big boys and that's where they need to be. My only concern is the plastic dashboard, I am hoping that gets an option for an upgrade with wood, carbon fiber brushed aluminum ANYTHING but plastic, it kills the sale for so many people. But this is a great start, SAAB people are know for spending more on their cars to be different and being a little more affluent than Audi and BMW but want to hide it. I am not to concerned about pricing because like I said, the loyal will come, the humble will buy and a great design sells. Now the only question is ... WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE 9-4X ?!?!?

I am really curious to see what the base price is going to be. I agree the green-screen radio and the rest of the dash seems out of place in a $40K+ luxury car.

AJM from JustSaab explained the 9-4X is shipping but it takes time for custom clearance and transportation. A Saab dealer in New Mexico reported on Facebook they may see 9-4X deliveries at their dealership this week. JustSaab is expecting them in about 1-2 weeks.

Now I'm not one to say that every saab needs to have 350HP.. But $50,000 is simply too much for a 220HP vehicle. I mean, even the "premium Plus" Audi a6 2.0T is $45,000The A4 wagon 2.0T maxes out at $45,000.This 9-5 needs to be priced at $40,000 to remain competitive with audi I think.

They definitely need to do something with their pricing. They should get rid of their usual $3-5K discounts and price at $45K.

XWD wasn't previously availaible with the 2.0L engine. The Premium 2.0L sedan with Nav is about $46K. Add $2K for XWD and $1K for the SportCombi version and you're at $49K.

The Volvo XC70 T6 AWD with 300hp starts at $38,200 and the 3.2 240hp FWD at $32,150. Saab fans will be a 2012 9-5 Saab SC but new customers? Small chance..

With the standard 18" wheels and Aero fron fascia, it almost is an Aero with a 4-cylinder engine.

Can't wait to see one ... but I guess it will be some time (if ever) that we see them here in Canada.
I still have yet to see the sedan ANYWHERE!!!

Disappointed that the Aero model isn't available right away ... would be a great catch if things don't work out (I know ... they will!!! ;-) ) as the prices would likely plummet!

I don’t think Saab is planning to sell a lot of 9-5 SC’s here in the US. Audi dropped the A6 wagon, Volvo the V70 wagon and BMW the 5-series wagon for the US and there is a reason for that. With the 9-4X being made in Mexico and much lower cost of production, together with an unfavorable exchange rate with the dollar/kronor/euro, they’ll make more money with the 9-4X. And Americans like crossovers and don’t like wagons. The 9-5 SC is going to be available in the US for the Saab enthusiast who wants to pay the premium but it is not going to be a big seller.

So there is an unexpected magical window opening up, a niche where Saab can rule. The dream of every marketer. I see an awful lot of wagons here on the road, do you really think the demand is zero?

I'm impressed with all the positive reactions on this new vehicle around here... not. There is not even a pricelist available, and you guys already know it is too expensive and is not going to sell. Is this the fanatic fanbase Saab is famous for?

I think I have more of a critical than a negative view. I would love to see the SC sell in large numbers and I think it is a great car. But just because we are Saab fans doesn't mean everything we say should be positive. Saab USA has made more poor decisions in the past when it comes to vehicle selection and equipment.

The introduction of the 2010 Saab 9-5 only gave us the expensive Aero model in the US. Dealers weren't able to sell them and had to give discounts of more than $10K to get rid of them. I just hope the 9-5 SC is not going to be a repeat of that.
